What I have been doing recently

I took time away from full-time work to pursue experiences I had always wanted to do but never felt there was the right time for. I worked a customer service and sales role for a new start-up for three months. Through this I learned just how much you can learn about a complete stranger over something as simple as a cup of coffee, and how much I genuinely enjoy understanding people’s backgrounds, interests, and perspectives.

After that, I moved to Taiwan for four months to study Mandarin. Growing up, I used to feel embarrassed when my brother called me “jie jie” (older sister) because none of my friends at school knew what it meant. I wanted to fit in. As I got older, I realized I had missed out on connecting with Taiwanese culture, so I decided to go full immersion. I moved to Taiwan alone, spent 12 weeks in intensive Mandarin classes, and pushed myself to use Mandarin in daily life, even when it meant occasionally ending up with the wrong food or drink because I refused to switch to English. It pushed me to learn quickly, observe closely, and become comfortable navigating unfamiliar situations.
